“The Unisphere of Flushing Meadows Corona Park”

It’s funny how as a young one you really don’t care where you from or what’s around you. I was going through some old pictures of my folks and gazing at the background of this one particular picture; it hit me…When was the last time I went to Flushing Meadows Park? I remember my mom dragging me to the park every Sunday and me -a very stubborn kid- trying to find the only excuse not to tag along with the family. Now that I’m much older, I dearly miss those days and how the giant steel Globe used to look. which comes to mind, What the hell happened to the water-jet fountains around the Globe? I tried to recall the last time it was running but I can’t remember. I hit up one of my friends and he said “wow!, that’s a good question!” so I decided to do my own research.

I read few articles but nothing specifies the day it was shut down. Only to find out water flow leaked into a nearby museum in recent years. But Henry Stern, The City Park’s Commissioner praised plans to fix the fountains, noting that they were always on during his tenure.

“If there’s no water, you might as well have it in a desert,” He said. If there’s a representation of the earth, water should be a part of it”

“Let there be water at the Unisphere-again! I say.
