“The Unisphere of Flushing Meadows Corona Park”

It’s funny how as a young one you really don’t care where you from or what’s around you. I was going through some old pictures of my folks and gazing at the background of this one particular picture; it hit me…When was the last time I went to Flushing Meadows Park? I remember my mom dragging me to the park every Sunday and me -a very stubborn kid- trying to find the only excuse not to tag along with the family. Now that I’m much older, I dearly miss those days and how the giant steel Globe used to look. which comes to mind, What the hell happened to the water-jet fountains around the Globe? I tried to recall the last time it was running but I can’t remember. I hit up one of my friends and he said “wow!, that’s a good question!” so I decided to do my own research.

I read few articles but nothing specifies the day it was shut down. Only to find out water flow leaked into a nearby museum in recent years. But Henry Stern, The City Park’s Commissioner praised plans to fix the fountains, noting that they were always on during his tenure.

“If there’s no water, you might as well have it in a desert,” He said. If there’s a representation of the earth, water should be a part of it”

“Let there be water at the Unisphere-again! I say.

Partying…

With a heat wave that can literally kill somebody and two hours of sleep after the shoot, I don’t know how we stayed up. Knowing that I have to be at work extra early on Fridays and Sarah having a photoshoot at 6:00am, didn’t stop us from hitting few spots with Mano and the gang. First stop was Donnis 10 Deep Release Party; can we say Sweatbox!? I literally lasted ten minutes before I left the scene. From there, Bowery Ballroom, Rivington Penthouse- I like this one-  and The Eldridge with just few pictures and ending the night at 3:00am at Rosarios Pizzeria; off we go to get some few hours of sleep.

P.S. I just realized I didn’t take a group picture. Sorry to those I left out – Who can forget the fisherman that night lol.
